Sabari Saranashramam is rooted in charity, selfless service, and devotion to the Lord Ayyappa. The organization was established on September 16, 2011, by Brahmasri Thazhamon Madom Maheswararu, the Supreme Priest (Thanthrimukhayan) of the Sabarimala Temple. The organization opened its doors in the presence of the esteemed people, including Pandalam Palace Raja Vishakham Thirunal Rama Varma, Former Sabarimala Melsanthi Brahmasri Vasudeva Sharma, Sri. Kummanam Rajasekharan, Sri. Viswarupan, Sri. V K Vishwanathan and Sri. Karinkunnam Ramachandran Nair. Today, Sabari Saranashramam remains true to its objective of bringing the spirituality of the great saints like Mata Sabri into the current age. Headquartered at Koonamkaraka, very near to Perunad, which was the administrative capital of the Raja of Pandalam, Sabari Saranashramam serves the Lord Ayyappa through various charitable activities.
Sabari Saranashramam is a registered public charitable trust and the organization's primary goals are social transformation and spiritual awakening of all, especially the devotees who come to pray and seek Lord Ayyappa's blessings.
Along with spreading the values and principles of the Lord Ayyappa, the organization is currently engaged in services such as the distribution of free meals, empowerment of the tribal community, conducting healthcare camps, providing academic scholarships, supporting in the event of natural calamities, conducting cultural events, etc. The trust is situated in an area of an 18-acre plot. To uplift the community, the proposals to start new projects and expand existing projects such as Sabari Ashramam, Annadana Kendra, Rehabilitation centre, Hospital, Manikanda Gurukulam, Ayyappa Museum, Gosala, etc, have been laid down. At Sabari Saranashramam, our vision is to establish well-equipped institutions and undertake projects to provide various services to the pilgrims who come to Sabarimala and to the tribal community of Poonkavanam. Our aim is to propagate the Ayyappa Dharma and the Ayyappa tradition. We envision meeting the spiritual, social, and physical needs of the Ayyappa devotees. We also intend to transform the lives of the less fortunate Vanavasis in the neighbourhood by elevating their lives.
Our mission is to extend unwavering support to the devotees of the Lord Ayyappa and uplift the Vanavasi brethren residing in Sabarimala Poonkavanam. Everyone deserves access to basic needs. We strive to provide the pilgrims and the tribal families with basic necessities such as shelter, food, and medical care. In addition, our objective is to make the tribal people, especially the Poonkavanam children, self-reliant through education and skill training.
We firmly hold on to the values of empowerment of the people and the communities, cooperation and collaboration, compassion towards others, transparency and accountability in each activity, and dedication. Through our values, we aim to make long-lasting viable solutions to the issues and challenges that the people of the area face.
Sabari Saranashramam provides a range of vital services to the Ayyappa devotees visiting the Sabarimala Sri Dharmashasta (Ayyappa) Temple and to the tribal communities living in Poonkavanam. We actively support the pilgrims and the tribals through the free distribution of meals at Annadana Kendram, distribution of educational materials to the Vanavasi children, distribution of clothes and other household essentials to the Vanavasis, organizing cultural events to promote the teachings of the Lord Ayyappa, providing educational scholarships, opening medical camps, operating ambulance services, and more. For instance, our free meals have provided sustenance to thousands of pilgrims, and our academic support has brought many Vanavasi children closer to their dreams.
We also build houses for the financially low-income families, a project that has transformed lives. Our organic farming is a great success, and the children are encouraged to advocate for sustainable agriculture. Our school, Manikanda Gurukulam, provides education to the children of the locality, enabling them for a brighter future. Our Seva Work covers all the services an individual needs to live respectfully, and we try to meet all the fundamental requirements. In the event of any disaster, we are quick to rise to the occasion and support in any way we can, an example being the recent Kerala floods. We have been carrying out various seva work for the betterment of the people around us and helping them throughout any occasion with their needs in whatever way we can. Through our future projects, we plan to expand further, create a stronger community, and provide all the essential support to the pilgrims and tribal folk.
